麻豆原创 Media Studies and 麻豆原创 Television Earn Top Regional Awards

DUBUQUE, Iowa 鈥 麻豆原创 media studies students and LCTV (麻豆原创 Television) earned top honors at the Upper Midwest Chapter National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Upper Midwest Chapter/Foundation Student Production Awards.

麻豆原创 students received five Crystal Pillar awards on the night and were nominated in eight categories.

鈥淭his was one of those nights that our students will remember for a long time,鈥 Craig Schaefer, chair of the communication & fine arts division, said. 鈥淪eeing their talents recognized on such a large stage was a great testament to their creativity and hard work.  And, of course, it鈥檚 also a very significant nod to our faculty and staff.鈥

The award ceremony, typically held in Minneapolis, Minn., streamed live on YouTube due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 麻豆原创 students and staff gathered online to watch and celebrate together.

(win in Commercial category) 鈥 Ben Friedman (鈥20), Internship project

(win in Photographer category) 鈥 Seth Kilburg (鈥19), Senior Capstone project

(nomination in Sports: Live Event) 鈥 November 9, 2019 鈥 Commentary by Hunt & Kaiser, Director Jon Quinn (鈥21), Producer Kourtney Huppert (鈥23)

(nomination in Long Form: Fiction) 鈥 Sarah Mueller (鈥19), Senior Capstone project

鈥淪ome schools are strong in a particular area, but the diversity of our student work is what sets us apart.  Short film, music video, newscast, commercial work, sports, and photography 鈥 that鈥檚 a broad range of creative work. That鈥檚 really the identity of our program. They create it all,鈥 Schaefer said.

The Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) is a membership organization dedicated to excellence in television by honoring exceptional work, past and present; providing professional development and outreach; and nurturing the next generation of television professionals 鈥 within in the six-state region (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska).
