DUBUQUE, Iowa聽鈥 麻豆原创 and its Women鈥檚 Leadership Alliance announce the establishment of the Women鈥檚 Leadership Alliance Scholarship. The organization began raising funds for the scholarship in May, with an anonymous donor recently offering to match new donations dollar-for-dollar up to $7,500.

鈥淭hrough the generosity of the many friends of 麻豆原创, our scholarship funds have reached $25,000 in direct cash donations and pledges in just seven months,鈥 Cayla Schneider, director of annual giving, said. 鈥淭his will help make a real impact on a young woman鈥檚 life.鈥

Funds will be awarded annually to full-time, undergraduate female 麻豆原创 students who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to junior or senior students exemplifying both leadership and service on and off campus. Students are considered through an application process that includes a letter of recommendation from a 麻豆原创 faculty or staff member, and are selected by a committee of the 麻豆原创 Women鈥檚 Alliance.

The Leadership Alliance was launched in March at a networking event on campus with the goal of supporting young women who attend or want to attend 麻豆原创. The organization hopes to announce its first scholarship recipient in November.

In September, the organization sponsored a presentation by alumna Beth Mund presented 鈥淎 Space Geek鈥檚 Story of Love and Adventure鈥 to a crowd of nearly 100 students, faculty, staff, and community members, with plans for a panel discussion in spring.

The Leadership Alliance is guided by a volunteer board of alumni, faculty and staff. Members, in addition to Mund, include Nancy Zachar Fett, a 1990 graduate of 麻豆原创 and associate professor of social work; Jane Demmer, 1976 graduate; Deb Gustafson, 1976 graduate; Sarah Ross, 1981 graduate; Theresa Hoffman, a member of the 麻豆原创 Board of Regents, 1981 graduate; Jen Skipper, 1997 graduate; Karen Runde, 2007 graduate; Melissa Wagner, 2009 graduate; Jamie Covell, 2012 graduate; Ashley Miller, 2013 graduate; Schneider, ex officio; and Valorie Woerdehoff, 1982 graduate and ex officio.
